Hi Mary,

I'm very sorry to hear this. In our case, I have a home office so I was able to spend a lot of time holding Tawzalt in my lap. I'm sure you will be able to figure out your own tricks. It will be exhausting and difficult, especially toward the end of the convalescence. For us, I can say it was definitely worth it.

Tawzalt has grown into a beautiful, happy and naughty adult dog. She is fully active and my children adore her. Sometimes we call her the 6 million dollar dog because her vet bills have racked up but in the end, for us, it was worth it.

I would caution you that if bandages become soaked, you really need to get them changed because in just a few hours in a wet bandage the skin develops sores. Then you have an extra problem to deal with.

Good luck to you.

I have just learned that my puppy with a broken hip needs to be crated for 2 months. I just cannot imagine keeping him crated for such a long time. It seems as if you were successful. Can you give me any advice for keeping a puppy occupied in a crate for so long? How did your pup adjust?

Thank you for sharing this story. My family adopted a puppy 2 weeks ago. This is our first dog, so we are novices. 5 days after getting our precious Archie, I was negligent and my son dropped the puppy, resulting in a broken arm. Both of the bones had snapped right above the elbow. Its been very stressful, and I worry so much about him. Reading this reminds me that it will all be over in time and he'll be fine. Thanks again!
